For the past week there has been much brouhaha over recently released details of the upcoming film version of Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche’s bestselling Biafra war novel Half of a Yellow Sun. The film will reportedly be directed by Nigerian playwright Biyi Bandele, with financial backing from the British Film Institute and unnamed Nigerian financiers. British producers are Andrea Calderwood, producer of Idi Amin bio-pic Last King of Scotland, and Gail Egan, producer of The Constant Gardener, both films which feature white protagonists set against crisis in Africa.
